We are constantly looking to forge strategic partnerships with local schools. Whilst we appreciate that you will look to provide every 16-18 year old pupil the opportunity to stay under the schools provision, we also understand that there will be pupils who are looking to leave the school’s infrastructure and start on their chosen career path.
Skills for Careers offers an alternative approach to either college or university for those pupils either looking for their first step on the career ladder or who have not achieved the requisite grades to take their desired degree place at university. Through our three specialised Apprenticeship Academies we focus on finding employment for all of our Apprentices and providing high quality programmes with outstanding delivery and support to individuals with serious career aspirations.
The Academies that we currently offer are:
1. The Business Skills Academy – Training and developing individuals who want a career in any kind of business, preparing them for the workplace and providing key employability training.
2. The Digital Media Academy – Training and developing individuals who are looking to undertake a career in the Digital Media Environment. Career paths include but are not limited to: Production assistant to researcher, Production secretary to production co-ordinator, Assistant to the camera crew to camera assistant, Trainee photographer to photographer.
All of the academy programmes provide progression opportunities into various areas of employment, further and higher education.
We find that engaging with these young adults whilst they are still in secondary education provides ourselves the best opportunity to support them and find them employed placements for when they leave secondary education at the end of year 11 or 13, and take their first step on the career ladder.
We are also constantly looking at ways in which we can support our partner schools. Members of our staff are always available to attend any careers events / open evenings to give clear and impartial advice to students, and answer any questions from parents and members of staff. We can also arrange through our extensive network of local employers work experience placements for those pupils in Year 10.
